Sterling silver is made up of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, primarily copper and will naturally tarnish over time as it interacts with the air. To keep your sterling silver jewellery looking its best, all you need to do is put a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid or baby shampoo in a bowl of warm water and let your jewellery soak for a few minutes, use a soft toothbrush to gently clean any crevices. Then rinse with clean warm water, dry with a soft cloth, such as a silver cloth or a microfibre cloth. Avoid kitchen paper towels as these can scratch silver.
There are also specialist cleaning fluids that you can use if your jewellery is very tarnished. Whichever way you choose to keep your jewellery clean and shining, it is quick and easy.
Wearing your sterling silver jewellery will actually slow down tarnishing, and when you are not wearing your jewellery, its best to keep it in an anti-tarnish lined box or bag or even a zip top plastic bag. Store in a cool, dark place, the lower humidity the better, so leaving your jewellery in a bathroom is not a good idea.
Avoid spraying perfumes and hairspray on your sterling silver pieces. Look at putting on your jewellery, as the last finishing touch.
Enjoy wearing your jewellery, remember as I mentioned, the more you wear it, the cleaner and shinier it will stay.
To keep your sterling silver jewellery looking as good as new, I will include a small polishing cloth with your order so you can keep it handy to give your sterling silver jewellery a quick buff over when needed.
